New Life Children's Home

A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of home I lived in, or the kind of car I drove, but the world will be different because I was important in the life of a child.

Nolan & Julia Vockrodt

New Life Children’s Home was founded in 1990 by Nolan and Julia Vockrodt after Nolan went on several missions trips to the Philippines. He was overwhelmed by the poverty-stricken children he saw on the streets in tattered clothes with no shoes on their feet. They were filthy and most were sick and malnourished.  It was apparent that the need was great, but he thought, as most of us do, that there was nothing one person could do to affect change for these children.

However, God had other plans.

New Life Children's HomeNolan met a American man who was running an orphaNew Life Children's Homenage on the island of Mindanao and he went to see the establishment.  Nolan was impressed that so much was being done with so little money.  As he left the orphanage and came back to the States, the faces of the children on the streets seemed to stick with him, but he still didn’t think that he could make a real difference.

A few years later, Nolan returned to the Philippines and while on a boat trip to Mindanao, God spoke to his heart about starting an orphanage. Nolan knew that this was what he was called to do.

Upon his return to the States, Nolan and his wife, Julia bNew Life Children's Homeegan taking steps to make the orphanages a reality.  Approximately three months later, the first New Life Children’s Home was opened in the Philippines on the island of Negros in Dumaguete City.  It began with 10 children and two house parents and operated for $700 a month.

In the early years, Nolan and Julia subsidized the entire operation themselves, but as word spread, people wanted to get involved.  Two and a half years later they chose to incorporate so that people could receive a tax deduction for their donations and contributions.New Life Children's Home

Almost 14 years later, New Life Children’s Home is still operated primarily by Nolan and Julia with the help of a few volunteers. What began as one man’s desire to make a difference is now changing the lives of almost 100 children in two nations.
